Corton Perrières Grand Cru |

The lone red Grand Cru in the Juillot cellars is also excellent this year, and sure to be a great bargain. Aromas of red cherry, cassis, iron-like soil tones and coniferous forest floor precede a powerful, full-bodied wine with great depth, concentration and balance. A mere 30% new oak really lets the terroir shine. |
Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roi | Red | 93 | 2025 | 2040 | From a parcel planted in 1932, the domaine’s smallest holding, Juillot typically bottles this exceptional wine exclusively in magnum. A refined, complex bouquet of wild berries, rich soil and incipient notes of roast squab precedes a supple, deep, full-bodied wine with a lovely chassis of fine tannin which will come into its own after a decade in the cellar. A smart purchase in 2015. |
Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Barraults | Red | 92 | 2023 | 2040 | The most taut and reserved of Juillot’s 1er crus, notes of red berries, cherry and chalky soil tones, subtly framed by new wood, lead into an elegant wine with a deceptively deep core of minerality and crunchy tannins. |
Mercurey 1er Cru Les Combins | Red | 91 | 2020 | 2033 | The Les Combins bottling, is especially delicious this year, loaded with expressive and juicy red cherry and strawberry fruit, complemented by subtle spice, with an ample, generous palate impression. |
Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martins | Red | 91 | 2022 | 2035 | The Champs Martins is also lovely in 2015, with a bouquet of black raspberry and licorice, marked a little more by its elevage at this stage (30% new oak), and framed by rich, ripe tannins. |
Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Tonnerre | Red | 90 | 2020 | 2033 | The Clos Tonnerre, from vines planted in 1958, is richer and more gourmand than the village bottlings, structured around fine, savoury tannins and boasting a bouquet of griotte cherry, kirsch and forest floor. |
Mercurey Les Vignes de Maillonge | Red | 88 | 2018 | 2026 | Another juicy village Mercurey, bursting with notes of dark fruit, chalky soil and subtle espresso, with more depth and tension on the fine, mid-weight palate. |
Mercurey | Red | 87 | 2017 | 2025 | A lovely Mercurey, bursting with notes of red cherry, rose and chalky soil tones; crisp, crunchy and laden with juicy red fruit on the palate. Approachable young with a quick decant. |
Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru | White | 93 | 2020 | 2040 | The Juillot Corton-Charlemagne hails from a parcel adjacent to Domaine Coche-Dury’s, within the original boundaries of the grand cru classification before it was expanded. It’s aged in 50% new oak and produced three-and-a-half barrels in this vintage. The 2015 is a powerful rendition, with a nose of lemon zest, peach, white flowers, hazelnut and a framing of spicy new oak, followed on the palate by a full-bodied, intense wine with bright acidity and a long, authoritative finish. A rich, rather old-fashioned Corton-Charlemagne, but none the worse for that. |
Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martin | White | 90 | 2018 | 2028 | The vines in Champs Martin produced lots of tiny, shot berries this year, and the extra concentration has lent this wine a lovely, velouté texture and beautiful depth on the palate—introduced by a bouquet of ripe orchard fruit, mirabelle plum and wet stones. |
Mercurey 1er Cru En Sazenay | White | 89 | 2016 | 2025 | En Sazenay is crisper and brighter still, with an elegant nose of citrus zest, white peach and orange blossom, leading into a refined, gently textural palate impression with nice minerality and cut. |
Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Barraults | White | 89 | 2017 | 2027 | The Clos de Barraults is more reserved and harder to read at this early stage, but it reveals more depth and amplitude on the palate, and a complex bouquet in which buttered apple mingles with notes of wheat toast and subtle spice. |
Mercurey Les Vignes de Maillonge | White | 88 | 2016 | 2022 | The Vignes de Maillonge is more serious, with a pure bouquet of grapefruit and mirabelle plum, followed by a wine with a generous, ample attack but nice soil-driven tension through the finish. |
Rully | White | 87 | 2016 | 2020 | A delicious, expressive Rully, dominated by notes of white flowers and grapefruit; juicy and fresh, to drink in its youth. Vinified and aged in demi-muids as well as fûts to preserve its energy. |
Mercurey | White | 87 | 2016 | 2020 |
The basic Mercurey is more gourmand and ample than the Rully, with a glossy, textural palate impression and aromas of ripe stone fruit. |
